Convento de las Dominicas, Teror, Gran Canaria
2025 marks the centenary of the Dominican convent and hospice that will be the venue of this symposium. Lichens cover its carefully carved stone walls and benches. It is located uphill at the outskirts of the town of Teror at a 15 to 20 minute walking distance from the town center. Teror is one of the oldest towns and at the heart of Gran Canaria. The location of the island’s most venerated shrine, and site of pilgrimage, La Virgen del Pino is traditionally associated with a pine tree and a spring.
We will be staying in both single and double dorm rooms as well as in two bunk bed areas. There are a number of working areas both indoor and outdoor as well as spaces to share time together during the evenings. The convent’s facilities and meals are simple but more than sufficient. Vegetarian meals will be provided. We will follow their basic rules with a strict non smoking policy throughout the building and quiet times at night. In order to ensure things go smoothly we ask for punctuality and respect towards the building and its wonderful gardens.
Courses will take place both in the convent facilities and in the nearby Finca de Osorio. The Finca de Osorio is a government-run protected farm and park. It is one of the locations on the island where fungi have been studied the most.
It can take about one hour to drive from Gran Canaria Airport to Teror by car or taxi. By bus the connection takes up to two hours. We will do our best to help you get to Teror. Once your registration is confirmed and you have bought your tickets please send information on arrival and departure times.
All costs for car(rental), taxi or bus coming and going to and from Teror will not be covered by the registration fee.
